Rudge Wood Horticulture is led by Darren Rudge and Helen Wood, who bring decades of experience in teaching, garden design, and horticultural practice.
Darren Rudge (BSc Hons Hort, Cert Ed)
With 35 years of experience delivering and managing horticultural programmes, Darren is not only a seasoned educator but also a nationally recognised garden designer. He was among the first to be awarded the prestigious City and Guilds Medal of Excellence for teaching and training. Darren is a Royal Horticultural Society Professional Associate and the resident gardening expert for BBC local radio, where his enthusiasm for plants and people shines through. His teaching style is both motivational and engaging, making learning a rewarding experience.
Helen Wood (BSc Hons Hort, PGCE, MCIoH)
Helen combines over two decades of professional garden design with a passion for teaching. Her expertise lies in amenity horticulture and garden design, and she has helped students of all ages and backgrounds develop their skills and confidence. Alongside Darren, Helen co-leads Rudge Wood Horticulture CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to promoting growth and wellbeing through outdoor learning. Together, they have also co-designed RHS medal-winning show gardens, including a Gold and Best in Show for Naturally Playful at RHS Gardeners’ World Live 2011.
